Drive Backup Software

I am getting some really odd clicking noises from my hard disk boot drive for windows 7. I have tried multiple times to use the native windows backup software to create an iso file. That way I can buy a new hard drive and restore the iso onto the new drive. However, windows never seems to be able to finish the backup and I get an error message about 90% of the way through. Therefore I am contemplating creating a bootable usb thumbdrive with an alternate OS that I can use a backup software on to create the image of my C drive while it isn’t booted. I am just wondering what OS are simple and easy to use and also have a good freeware or native backup software options. I def don’t know the languague of linux so it needs to be a pretty intuitive/dumbed down OS. Any suggestions?

i didnt even read your whole post if your hard drive is clicking it is no more buy a new one hope you backed up your info
