Ok you bought your self a new hard drive or yours is dieing,what do you do? Like always back up your data,on to a usb,cd,dvd’s,or external hard drive. There are a few ways to save your installed program’s and backing up your ppa’s. This is not really a full tutorial,just a few tips.

The reason as to why I havn’t really been active lately: My laptop is fine but my HDD is FUCKED!

- Re-installing Windows doesn’t work
- Lenovo OneKey Recovery doesn’t work
- Windows 7 Recovery doesn’t work.

So yeah I may have to buy a new HDD and a new copy of Win7 Pro. However I may be able to get a free replacement but I’ll have to wait.

+ I’d like to thank everyone for staying subscribed (I even gained a few subscribers whilst I was away)

Be sure to watch the entire video first. Always backup your data first. Unless you are a daredevil like me or stores everything to the cloud then you may proceed.

I ended up uninstalling everything including the intel and gigabyte software. I was not using them anyways since I manually overclock my CPU in the BIOS and that did away all of the Gigabyte Utilities. I am not using the Intel SSD caching (SRT) technology so I don’t think I need the Intel Software.

hi,

im 33 and have windows xp on a custom built desktop computer i got in 2006….i have a lowish income and cannot afford the upgrade to windows 7 yet.

months ago…the western digital ext harddrive ive had for years crashed on me, id dragged n dropped a lot of data on there over the years like ; word pad documents, with a lot written in them…a lot of picture files – jpgs, gif files, png files…..and a lot of music videos, youtube video clips….vintage clips etc.

the local comp repair shop looked at it and phoned me weeks later and said theyd managed to recover some lost data on the ext harddrive but quite a bit of it was lost for good…..so they suggested i buy a new bigger ext harddrive so i could transfer all all the recovered data on the new ext harddrive……they said they would transfer the recovered data on the new ext harddrive for me.

im still trying to deal with losing a lot of important info on the ext hard drive that crashed…come to terms…….i cant remember most of what i dragged on there….but i think it was valuable media.

i cant afford to go and collect my new hard drive yet with the recoverd data on it….they said will keep hold of it for me.

meanwhile hear at my flat…without any external hard drive….but i have two internal back up drives – E and D in my computer….here…..and 10 new dvd+rw recordable dvds 4.7 GB 4x speed 120 mins.

and finally ; 50 cd-Rs recordable cds write once 700MB 52x speed 80 mins.

these are the only facilitys at the moment at my flat……..so could i use any of these to back up my files media with?

or would i have to wait to save up for something else or a piece of software to backup my info with?

I personally use 2 different free services for backing up.

The first is dropbox, it creates a new folder in your documents called my dropbox. You should store all your important files here (free accounts on give you 2GB of space though). This will then sync all changes made to your files. You can then access your files online, sync them to other computers and easily restore them if your hard drive fails. The second service is Crashplan. This lets you backup ALL your files to multiple locations. You can tell it to backup your files to an external harddrive (or another internal one), your friends computers and/or crashplans servers. Backing up to crashplans severs (crashplan+) costs $24.99 / £16 a year as you get 50% off for unlimited data at the moment – so its a very good deal. I have dropbox backup all my uni files so they stay in sync between my pc and my laptop. I can access my work online on my uni’s computers and I can restore to previous versions of files.

I have crashplan backup all my music, photos, videos and other files to an external hardrive and crashplan+ online. I also have my computer illiterate family members computers backing up to my computer over the internet.

Both are very good backup solutions and and click and forget!
