Archive for the ‘drive backup software’ Category

(Full tutorial below) I created this tutorial to show you just how easy it is to make a full backup with Acronis True Image software. Afterwards I will double click on the backup file to show you that you can go into the archive that’s created and pull out a file if you need to.

1. Fire up Acronis True Image Home by clicking on its shortcut
2. Select Disk and partition backup
3. Select the source drive. I’m selecting the 1 TB hard drive where I save my data, like movie files.
4. My Destination drive is already set to my new 2 TB Western Digital Green drive, but you might have to chose whatever drive makes sense for you.

Notice how there is an option to set a regular schedule for this particular backup. If you want this backup to run automatically for you on a schedule click on “turn on” to setup your backup schedule. Otherwise skip this step.

My backup scheme is set to incremental. With this scheme a full backup in done once, and incremental backups are done thereafter to capture whatever files have changed or been added since the last version.

A Differential backup stores all the changes that have taken place since the last Full backup.

A full backup stores entirely the data selected to a backup.

That’s pretty much it. Just start the backup and, you’re all set.

I use an SSD (solid state drive) for my operating system and my favorite apps, and for my data like movies, pictures, music, and other software applications, I use a 1 GB SATA drive. For backup software I use Acronis True Image Home 2012 (It came with my copy of Windows 7 from NewEgg as a freebee), to make a backup of my system at least once a month. Recently I purchased a 2 TB Western Digital Green SATA drive to make a full backup of my data drive and that’s what’s in my how to backup a data drive video .

I don’t able to find any descent backup program that allows me to backup my entire C: drive, and giving the option to restore it in case of troubles.

The drive is an 90GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and I have Windows 7 x64 installed on it. I also have most of my programs installed on it. Normal data (such as mp3’s, avi’s or photo’s) are stored on normal harddrives.

I have tried Norton Ghost 15, and although this program is capable of making an entire clone of the C: drive, the rescue disk cannot find the ssd drive. So this does not work.

I have also tried Macrium Reflect. This tool can also make a complete clone of the C: drive, but for some reason when trying to recover I cannot select the "system reserved" and "C partition" together, only one at a time. So, only the C partition is restored, while the system reserved partition is missing, hence the system won’t boot. (I do know the C partition must not be set to active, that it has to be set as "primary" and that I must NOT restore the MBR).

The Windows Backup utility gives me the impression it does not backup ALL the data on the c: drive.

I am getting annoyed by this fuzzing around with the System Reserved partition, It seems no backup program can make this any easier. I hope you guys may know any good (free) program that just backups everything on the c-drive and restores without "moaning". ;-)

Thanks in advance.

I use the windows backup utility and it works fine.

Symptoms: After I updated the XBOX Dashboard via USB or online, my XBOX 360 no longer plays backup games. When I load up the game, I can see the logo load but when it launches the game it shows a white screen with a XBOX 360 logo and sits there forever.

Solution: What happened is the dashboard update reflashed your DVD drive making it useless for playing backup games. All you need to do is reflash it with the latest iXtreme firmware.

What I have:
7000 Series Liteon Drive
Jungle Flasher Software
CK3 Probe Drivers
Latest iXtreme firmware

Before I updated the XBOX dashboard, I had used firmware LTPlus 748v1.1

I updated to 13599 dashboard and now the XBOX cannot read my burned games. It just loads a white screen with the XBOX 360 logo.

The dashboard update of 13599 brought the dashboard up to version 2.0.13599.0 which was released on July 19, 2011.

Note to self: Always check what the dashboard update does and NEVER do it right when it comes out. Check online to see if any users have updated with their hacked XBOXs.

Should always check here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_system_software, this shows what the update performs and what changes it will make.

The dashboard update reflashes your DVD drive back to the stock firmware, which is why your XBOX games no longer load. The solution is easy, you will just need to reflash your drive. It just means you will have to disassemble your XBOX again, (hope you saved your keys when you probed it) use your saved drive keys and run the flasher software again with your drive hooked up to your PC.

The latest iXtreme firmware update is the LT Plus v1.1. Download this update from the iXtreme website: http://www.ixtreme.net/. The download is located in their forum.

LT Plus v1.1
Official release of C4E’s iXtreme LT+ v1.1
- Supports Benq and Liteon Drives (74850, 83850V1, 83850V2, 93450)
- xbox 1 backup support (iXtreme compatible, DVD9 only)
- improved pfi support

Make sure the firmware matches the drive you have. You should be able to follow along with my video tutorial to help you with reflashing. It had been a while so I forgot how to do it. This video should be a good refresher.

Today we’re doing an in-home demonstration of the GoFlex family of products from Seagate.

The GoFlex family of products features 2.5″ and 3.5″ external hard drives that have an upgradeable custom SATA adapter. Each adapter can be swapped out for a different interface, so you can move from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0, eSATAp, or Firewire 800.

For Network Attached Storage, the GoFlex Home features the same drive-swapping interface in a NAS cradle, which allows multiple computers to access the drive via your home network. Seagate’s included backup software has licenses for 3 PCs and is Time Machine compatible.

The GoFlex Net is a dock for two 2.5″ FreeAgent GoFlex drives, and works with the PogoPlug cloud storage service. This allows you to access your home storage from any location with internet access, and also features the PogoPlug iPad/iPhone app which helps add extended storage through the internet for these devices.

Finally, the GoFlex TV is a capable and easy-to-use media streaming device for your home theater. You can plug in USB storage devices or connect it to your router to access movies, music and photos directly on your TV.
